make shift cycle speedway tracks by the local boys.

In 1996 cycle speedway celebrated fifty years of cycle speedway. That year the Veteran
Cycle Speedway Association was started. A meeting
was held at Thurrock Essex. With many riders from the past taking to the track.
Since 1996 regular veteran events are staged, including the over 40, over 50 and over 60 individual
Championships and team championships. Many veteran riders also race regularly in team league racing.
